Waterproof TVs for Sauna, Bathhouses, and Swimming Pools

In this article, we will explain how to choose a waterproof TV for your swimming pool, sauna, or bathhouse:

What Features Should a TV for a Sauna or Pool Have?

We all know that bathhouses and swimming pools are consistently associated with high humidity levels, regardless of the room's size. In swimming pools, water continuously circulates and evaporates, while in any type of bathhouse, whether it’s a Russian banya, Finnish sauna, or Turkish hammam, high humidity levels are deliberately maintained. For instance, even though the Finnish sauna is considered "dry," pouring water over the hot stones while steaming temporarily increases the ambient humidity. Similarly, water vapor tends to seep into adjoining relaxation rooms and even dressing areas. On average, the humidity levels in rooms adjacent to the steam room reach about 60-65% when proper ventilation is in place.

The same principles apply to swimming pools, where the relative humidity should ideally remain below 60%. However, in practice, this figure is often exceeded, as achieving a microclimate that minimizes water evaporation from the pool's surface can be challenging. (Typically, the water temperature in the pool is maintained 1-2 degrees below the air temperature.) Therefore, due to the consistently high humidity levels, any TV intended for installation in a bathhouse, sauna, or pool must be specifically designed to be waterproof.

Another important reason for choosing a waterproof TV for a sauna is its ability to withstand accidental contact with water. Splashes are an inevitable part of such environments, and traditional household TVs are not designed to handle them. Any stray droplets of water that penetrate the TV's chassis can cause it to malfunction.

Below, you can watch a video depicting the performance testing of an AVEL waterproof TV under actual sauna conditions. The device was tested for over two hours in a high-humidity environment (with a steam generator active), as well as in high-temperature conditions exceeding 80°C. Throughout the test, the TV functioned flawlessly, maintaining impeccable picture and sound quality.

AVEL's waterproof TVs for bathhouses come with an IPx4 protection rating, ensuring reliable defense against water splashes from any angle when mounted using VESA brackets. If the TV is embedded into the wall, the level of protection is even greater, as the front panel is made from tempered glass. These TVs can be installed in any high-humidity area, including swimming pools, shower rooms, or even regular bathrooms.

Protection Against High Temperatures

If you plan to install a TV within the steam room of a bathhouse or sauna, you should also consider its resistance to elevated temperatures. While placing the TV in a relaxation room is the most practical option, installation in the steam room is possible with additional precautions. Be sure to carefully review the manufacturer’s recommendations for temperature limits.

As for AVEL waterproof TVs, we recommend installing them in steam rooms only if additional forced ventilation is provided for the TV’s casing, should it be embedded into the wall. Simply mounting the unit with VESA brackets in a steam room is not recommended; when ambient temperatures exceed 50°C, the device's built-in safety systems may trigger its automatic shutdown to prevent overheating.

What Screen Size is Best for Sauna, Bathhouse, or Pool Use?

The choice of waterproof TV size for a sauna, bathhouse, or pool depends on the room’s dimensions and the distance between the viewer and the screen. Here are the optimal viewing distances for various screen sizes:
